There is a small island just after you make the turn by Trout River known to the locals as Goat Island.  It's the result of some dredging but has grown up with trees and vegetation.  Some say there are wild goats on it but I've never seen any.  White sandy beaches.  Bring a gazebo and a grill and you're all set.  Not usually crowded.  Be careful going in as it is pretty shallow and you can wind up high and dry if the tide goes out while you are partying.

I remember cruising by Goat Island around 5 years ago and we saw the goats on the island. I had heard that there was a source of fresh water on the island, and I did hear that the goats had disappeared since then.

Is there enough sand aound the island to approach it by boat without roughing up your botton? I wonder if there's a lot of oyster mounds close to the island that need to be avoided?

Is there anything notable to look at while on the island?
Thanks! Going to try it out over the next week or two.
So what direction is the best to approach this island?   Is there good sand all around it or is it surrounded by Oyster beds?
there is good sand on the north side of it.. Rocky shores on the Mill cove side.
We finally went to Goat Island about two weeks ago.  We were looking for a Geocache that was supposed to be on the southern end, so we motored over to the Mill Cove side.  You are right.  Very rocky and full of oyster shells.  Two of us got cuts on our feet and one dog got cuts on her paw.   Lesson learned.   The north side looks like the winner.  I'd avoid the Mill Cove side.
