Hurricane preparedness

Aloha--For thirty years I berthed my sloop (and lived aboard for a time)  in East Coast ports.  Every year the hurricane threat roared up the coast and sent tremors up the spines of boat owners already paying huge insurance premiums--that is, those who could find a company to insure them. Now, I know in February we are getting cabin fever and the blood surges when we think of our boats, but we think of Spring outfitting, not hurricanes.  However, this may be the best time to give some thought,…See More

Aloha-- For those interested, the Islands sustained only minor damage during the tsunami.  On Oahu where IIive   some boats were pulled from their moorings, some floating docks jumbled and a couple of boats sunk.  Most real damage was on the South end of the Big Island of Hawaii where a house was swept away.I lost most of my collection of charts--mostly of the Mid Atlantic Coast and the Bahamas. I see a side bar offering Boating Books and a photo of a damaged boat.I'm the author of 'Hurricane…See More

About Me / Us (what you do for a living, about your family, other hobbies, boating experience, anything else you want to share, etc..)
I"m retired and writing books--novels, short stories and boating tech books.
I live in Honolulu after spending a lot of time in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, etc (places I write about.) My wife is an author of an award winning Hawaiian Cook Book and she is just finishing a saga about her immigrant Chinese father who was a 'paniolo', a Hawaiian cowboy. I was a liveaboard on the Chesapeake Bay in a Bill Tripp Galaxie 32' for fifteen years. I need folks like you, boat smart, to review my Hurricane Handbook. I will offer a free download of my novel, 'The Devil to Pay" to anyone who will buy (you have to buy it in order to review it) and review the Handbook. Anyone interested please contact me at genep93@gmail.com Mahalo for your attention. GjP
